If Eduardo Paolozzi is remembered as a founding figure of Pop Art, it is not how he wanted to go down in art history. Nor should it be. If anything, he was, as a current exhibition at Pallant House in Chichester shows, what he said of himself: a Surrealist, playing games, mixing images and delving into the subconscious in an effort to create an art of the time for the time.

An arts and crafts visitor centre, Taurus Crafts acts as a base for around 15 small artisan businesses C from the manufacture of handmade chocolate, through to a pottery workshop and jewellery makers.

The centre contains the sorts of businesses where every penny saved on outgoings makes a big difference. "It's amazing more businesses aren't doing the same in these hard economic times," said Matt Williams, senior business energy adviser at Severn Wye Energy Agency, which carried out the audit of the site. "It's good to see such proactivity and interest in making changes."

Severn Wye has been helping businesses improve their energy efficiency and reduce their fuel bills for more than a decade. It's also helped dozens of businesses understand more about the various renewable technologies that are out there, which ones are suitable for them and how they can help bring in an income.Matt first visited the site in February 2011 to carry out an audit, and returned again earlier this year to see the improvements the site had made C and to see what plans they were still investigating.

"They've already made some really big savings from simply switching to low energy lighting," said Matt. "They're starting to benefit now from all the work they've done C and they're still intending to do more."Work so far has included writing an energy policy for the site, establishing a targeting and monthly monitoring routine, improving refrigeration efficiency and investigating heat recovery opportunities. Their next big step, which should see the biggest reduction in energy expenses, will be removing their dependency on LPG and oil heating, and moving to a new biomass heating system.

"The site is off the gas network, so this will have a big impact and they're hoping to have a new system installed before the winter. They've already lined up a local installer to do the work C and found a local supplier for the fuel; the wood yard next door to their site will be providing the woodchip from waste wood."

Ingo Kresse, site manager at Taurus Crafts, said: "Since the first report we have been active on two fronts C trying to get a biomass boiler to the site and replacing halogen with LED light bulbs. It was encouraging to see from the second report what impact we have made just changing the lights. We are intending on carrying out several other suggestions in the report as part of our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint further.

For the responsible site owners to reduce their carbon footprint is an important issue C but if they and the businesses weren't making the savings, then making the investment in biomass wouldn't stack up."They're doing it because they believe in it,This is a great Cheap Conservation solution! but also because there's a business case for doing it," Matt added.Which certainly makes the case for more businesses struggling with high annual overheads, to do the same.

Some basements are filled with Tupperware boxes of old photographs and knickknacks peppered with cobwebs. For a local woman, though,What's the difference between Marble tiles and Porcelain Tiles? a basement is a place for reams of fabric, squares of cloth and a few handheld dolls with sketched faces. They keep me company when Im down here quilting,A China Stone Carving concept that would double as a quick charge station for gadgets. Laura Soelter said with a smile.

Soelter has created more than 30 quilts and won two local awards for her craft. She sews quilts for her twin 24-year-olds, Harrison and Amanda, as well as for hospice patients through the End of the Trail Quilt Guild.Additionally, Soelter has created costumes like pirate coats and fairy dresses for the Renaissance Festival. Its kind of slacked off since my kids have grown up, Soelter said of the costume-making, but I still have a basement full of them, and occasionally people borrow them.

Bright, fun colors are beginning to find their way into bathrooms. The Atlanta countertops experts at Craftmark Solid Surfaces believe that bathrooms are a great place for people to experiment with bringing more color into their homes. If you are shy about color, they recommend starting with a lighter shade and working slowly towards richer colors.

Just like the walls, many bathroom cabinets are getting a facelift in Atlanta homes this summer. Refinishing cabinetry is a great way to give the bathroom an updated look, especially if it's seen better days. Craftmark Solid Surfaces recommends that you refresh the stain on your cabinets if you choose to refinish them. Use darker stain for a more traditional look, or use a lighter stain to open up and modernize the space.

Granite countertops and vanity tops are also making a big splash in bathrooms this summer. Homeowners are upgrading because granite is one home improvement that will truly last. Atlanta granite bathroom countertops offer timeless beauty and legendary durability that many families love. Sellers should note that buyers find granite counters especially appealing!

It's a story steeped in triumph and tragedy and possibly a little urban legend.Decatur will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its Peace Monument with a rededication ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Adams County Courthouse Square. The ceremony during the community's Kekionga Festival also salutes the effort to raise more than $40,000 to restore the monument to its original look and to add a Wall of Peace behind it, which will list the names U.S. military veterans with an Adams County connection who have served since 1913.

Earlier this month, Guild Hall, a nonprofit exhibition space in East Hampton, opened an exhibition of the work of painter Chuck Close. The 27 works in the show all feature his trademark, mostly large-scale portraits of himself or his artist friends. There are ink drawings from the 1970s, several oil paintings, a Japanese-style woodcut, silkscreen prints and digital prints. Not many surprises there. There is, however, a handful of works here that are eye opening: five woven tapestry portraitstwo of himself, one of artist Lucas Samaras, one of deceased artist Roy Lichtenstein and one of singer Lou Reed.

Curt Ramage milled about the Tampa Home and Garden Show on Sunday, gathering ideas on home improvements and more than a few business cards. He hadnt planned to actually buy anything on Sunday or order any services to improve the house hes building in the Lakewood Ranch subdivision in Sarasota County. But, he said, I never walk out of anywhere empty handed. The times are improving for people who want to invest in home improvements, he said, and more disposable income is loosened up by a slowly, but steadily improving economy.

Its a timing issue and right now is a good time to plan home improvements, Ramage said. Its much better, said Craig Araujo, owner of Outdoor Kitchen and Grills, which held a prime spot at the home show, right in the front as people streamed in the doors of the Tampa Convention Centers second-floor exhibition room.

We do every home show and you can gauge the economy, he said. This weekend, weve seen countless people saying they are buying or building new homes.Homeowners dumping hard-earned cash into home improvements, such as new floors, granite counter tops, hot tubs and bathrooms with Italian tile is on the upswing, market analysts say.

The Home Improvement Research Institute said that in 2012, homeowners spent $275.6 billion on home improvements, an increase of 5 percent from the year before. We expect stronger growth of home improvement sales averaging 5.9 percent in 2014-2015 with a deceleration in the following two years as the housing market cycle runs its course, according to the institutes website. Still, analysts predict that by 2017, homeowners will spend $346 billion in home improvements.

Homeowners who have lived in their houses for three years or less accounted for $19 billion of that chunk, according to Scarborough Digital, which tracks consumer and market trends.

Research shows that these new homeowners are spending lots of money on a variety of home improvements, from heavy remodeling projects to buying new furniture, Scarborough Digital consumer analysts say.If you have disposable income, why not spend it on something totally out there, like a pinball machine or an old Ms. PacMan video console?

Thats what Jim and Vickie Feutz of Tampa did. He said timing was key in making the expenditure, but not necessarily the timing of the economy. The grandkids, he said, are finally old enough.

Theyre at the age where they can have fun with this, he said, standing next to the Florida Amusement Brokers booth, chatting with Randy Lebedz, who sells pinball and video games along with old-style jukeboxes; definitely items that sell only in good economic times. We sell everything people dont need, said Lebedz, who has a storefront in Largo and markets his wares exclusively to homeowners.

For the home environment, pinball machines are really taking off, he said.Within the things-you-dont-really-need category, is the Grillbot, a smallish gizmo that rides on whirring wire brushes that cleans the top of grills. The idea belongs to Ethan Woods, who designed and is marketing the Grillbot around the country.

This feeds on the fact that maybe one in 20 people on the planet likes to clean a grill, he said. Its a feel-good item.He cant say if sales this year will top sales from last year, because the Grillbot is not on the market yet, with orders being taken in home shows around the country, Woods said.

Frank Licek and his wife, Naomi, watched as the hypnotizing Grillbot whisked back and forth across the top of the demo grill.Licek opted not to plunk down the $100 for the gadget.Im just getting some ideas here, he said.He just completed a major home improvement project last year, chopping half his 1948 Palma Ceia house off and rebuilding it. Its a project that a few years ago,Most modern headlight designs include Cheap Marble Slabs. he might not have been able to afford, but prospects are better now.

Developer Deborah Fairbanks has transformed the former Marlborough Wire Goods factory to house condominiums,What's the difference between Marble tiles and Porcelain Tiles? artists studios and a coffee shop that hosts music and poetry-readings.

The smell of beans brewing at the Coffee Loft next door drifts through the entrance lobby of the condominium complex where an award from the Marlborough Historical Society honoring Fairbanks for her preservation efforts hangs on the wall of exposed brick.

A center courtyard exposed to the sky gives an Old World feel. An expansive roof-deck surveys the surrounding housetops. The sense is one of urban sophistication. Earlier this year the Chronicle program on WCVB Channel 5 spotlighted the Renaissance Lofts development as a bellwether of a cultural revival in this city.

The entire renovation has been done using green materials, noted listing agent Cindy Gordon of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, who said developer Fairbanks really has been able to preserve the original structure and character of the building while making the lofts contemporary,Are you still hesitating about where to buy Cheap Tools Products? with all the modern conveniences, and energy-efficient.

Unit 310, a three-bedroom, 1,743-square-foot condo selling for $375,000, is one of three units left for sale in the development. Gordon describes it as one of the most unique listings she has had.

The kitchen area is contemporary in style with a range hood suspended from the ceiling over the granite-topped island with gas cooktop. The appliances are stainless, the cabinets are wood, painted black, and the floor is stained concrete. The kitchen window over the sink looks out to a lobby for a freight elevator, providing easy access when returning with groceries.

The interior has an industrial feel, with futuristic light fixtures and exposed girders, brick, pipes and beams. Across the wooden ceiling with skylights runs an old air duct. Gordon describes the look as modern design meets old industrial.

The great room is aptly named, with a 21-foot-high vaulted ceiling, and four 74-by-32 east-facing windows filling the room with light. Prints of New York and London on the wall add to an urban feel.

Dennis Sun, a Hong Kong jewelry collector, has been buying jade for three decades. Lately, it has been harder to snag the perfect piece as mainland Chinese buyers drive prices through the roof.At a Christies auction in May, he watched a jadeite ring sell for about HK$20 million ($2.6 million), or five times its estimated price. Last month, he bought a jade bangle for almost HK$1 million even though the colour and quality werent all had hoped for.
